About American Life
American Life is a publication built on a simple observation: the conditions shaping existence in the United States are not opaque. They are legible — if one looks at structures rather than surfaces, outcomes rather than claims, and systems rather than events.
From the colonial compact to the industrial order to the postwar settlement to the present fracture, the United States has always been most honestly understood by examining what its institutions actually produce, rather than what they profess to intend. That discipline is what American Life applies — without ideological attachment, without institutional deference, and without the performative outrage that substitutes for analysis in most contemporary media.
The publication covers six domains: political authority, economic structure, global position, cultural formation, and health outcomes — integrated through a seventh, The Signal, which synthesizes developments across all five sections into a coherent orientation for the present moment.
The readership is international in orientation, consequential in position, and done pretending that the available alternatives are sufficient.
